There are a lot of things in this book that are totally unrealistic. For example, they expect your PC's to be on their third career after 1800 xp. If you have played or GM'd WFRP II before, you should realize how far fetched this is. This is one example of how large the errors are in this book though.I'm not sure if the people who wrote this expect the players to not get all the information available, or if they are supposed to act as if they didn't get the info in the first place. Maybe it's because their players act totally different from my players and myself when I play. The reason I say this is because while they give information for different scenarios depending on what the PC's do, they give no information for some obvious directions as if no one would ever think of doing the obvious. Also they act as if all parties will have someone who can read and no parties use missile weapons. Just strange IMO.If you modify the enemies (and unfortunately a lot of the plot as well) you could use this book for PC's that have already finished the "Paths of the Damned" campaign. Personally I would never use this book as is, and definitely not as is for first career PC's. For example, first career players with 4 people helping them fighting against 1 Blood Dragon Vampire, 8 Strigoi Vampires and 8 Zombies. Here's the kicker though, the Vampires are holding back because they really don't want to kill anyone. As I said, a lot of modifications will be needed on your part to make things make sense.If you and your group like to make up new PC's and watch them get mutated, diseased and die, this would be a fun book for you as is.Another thing that really bothered me is that this book expects you to reward your players with experience points for failing their will power rolls and losing free will of their characters and even more XP for defending the mutant they should be trying to kill.It is possible to cut this book up and use one or some of the chapters as stand alone adventures with minor modifications if this is what you are looking for. Now that the price has dropped to almost half of what it was originally, it's almost worth it. Again, IMO.

I think the comment about the campaign needing work to be runable, is very accurate. However, there is a lot here, so to me it's worth picking up the PDF to run it.That being said, the many authors show in this, and you will get tired of seeing inconsistencies and errors within it.

This was a big dissapointment.When i got the book is was happy with its size. But then I began to prepare the campaign for the my roleplay party. I got more and more dissapointed.The story is written by different writers and it shows.The story is a bit too far fetched. I know it is fantasy, but it is clearly done to get length in to the story. So you get connections wich are not realy connected. All the vampire clans are brougth in to the campaign. There are chaos cults and other non aligned parties. It is just too much.Then there are loose ends to deal with. For example suddenly the players should know some facts, but there is know way they could have found out since there is no reference in earlier parts. As Gm you will just have to find a loop for this.I stopped preparing it and grapped an old WRFP version 1 campaing I still had and modified it to play with version 2.

I am so glad they are still supporting WFRP. I am curious to see what they do with the 3rd edition

If he did his portrayal of the other men on that mountain as realistically as my son's then he at least captured the thinking and actions of the men involved from their perspectives including background information.If you want tight action description and an armchair tactical analysis of the battle, then this is not it. However, if you want to understand the deep confusion and chaos of a small unit action on a tall mountain surrounded by savage enemies, then this is the right account. All the Ranger dead were my son's friends. I understood my son's deep grief better after reading the book and valued better his own contributions to try to save his friends.

Sometimes, it gets a little confused at times with the kinetics of the firefight. The author does not glorify the action and appears to try to maintain an honest portrayal of the factors that contributed to the Operators, Rangers, FAC/PJs and Aircrew involved in the contact.It reads well. For a nonservice person, I would recommend pausing and googling some of the gear and acronyms to better enjoy the book.Spoiler********************************************************************A lot of people will be familiar with this event, given it was the biggest loss of US forces in Afghanistan to that date. All the guys involved deserve respect and our thanks for being there, feet in the mud doing their job. What this book will do for the serving and retired reading this is show the SNAFU that has accompanied soldiers since Gaius Julius Caesar, George Washington, Patton and Westmoreland.The author leads the reader through the critical failures that led to this engagement. From mechanical failures delaying the DEVGRU team to force the insertion at the hot LZ; to the inability of command chain to provide CASEVAC.Overall, it is a worth reading, when any of the past documentaries on the topic paint the engagement as something planned versus an accidental, series of events putting US forces in an uphill attack, against suppressive fire, without the correct equipment and support.

Clear, concise account of the entire operation surrounding the death of Roberts as part of Operation Anaconda. If you have military experience, it will surely sadden you and frustrate you since the entire mission that led to this story was ill conceived and improperly planned. It exposes the command and control issues resulting from senior officers in far away places trying to command and control operations for which they do not have situational awareness. If the commanders had only consulted the men on the ground, in the area of operations, who knew the situation, Roberts Ridge would never have occurred and all those who died trying to save Roberts could have been spared. Great story of heroism on the part of the special operations forces but also an equally great story of the failure of several command and control headquarters to do their jobs.

I really wanted to like this book as those who fought there did so with great courage and skill and made such incredible sacrifices. However, I felt the author let them down in two primary areas-a lack of background for the original insertion decision and the decisions made from afar during the fight.I was also disappointed with the very limited indexing. There are also some critical inconsistencies in the book.The Seals came to the area looking for a mission on very short notice. It was apparently not their decision, but from far up the food chain and thousands of miles away in a flat land. There was a failure to appreciate the need to adapt to the altitude.Control of Takur Ghar was not seen as essential in the plan for the operation prior to the arrival of the Seals. However, the author appears to start with the premise that control was essential, but in the end accepts the view that it was not essential.The decision imposed on the Seals to make a direct aerial assault on the position after experiencing delays, rather than delay 24 hours, was an imposition from above. One of the grave risks of the new information age is that those (both military officers and politicians) receiving satellite, UAV data and perhaps battlefield video will abandon their roles of strategic planning and information dissemination in favor of making tactical decisions without situational awareness. It's a recipe for disaster.There's a reason that a great football coach is down on the field while the spotters and perhaps those who recommend plays are high above the stadium.In some respects the limitations of the book are a reflection of that lack of shared information and situational awareness which plagued the fighters during the events. According to Blaber (The Men, The Mission and Me) he was in contact with the Seal team during their fight and also in contact with the AC-130. This account treats Blaber as being out of contact which appears most unlikely given his role in the overall operation. He was uniquely qualified to provide the Rangers with much needed situational awareness.Overall it is a worthwhile read but I recommend reading three other books Not A Good Day To Die , The Mission, The Men and Me , and First In to get a better perspective on the war in Afghanistan in 2001-02

Could not put this book down. What our military people have to endure is beyond belief. The military red tape and chain of command issuing orders when they don't know the facts on the ground is getting our warriors killed. Situations on the ground change by the minute and can get men killed when help does not arrive immediately. I regret that so many men died needlessly. This book is a tribute to our warrior heroes.

I liked only four storiesI liked only four stories. FOUR FREAKING STORIES. Honestly, it baffles me that most of the stories were written in the most childish and unappealing way EVER, and that most of them started with the character being good. It just made the stories boring and laughable, in my opinion. Why waste your time with making the characters good? Start with them being evil and develop them like that.I was incredibly offended by the way Shannon did her story, in terms of storytelling. IF THE FAE KIDNAPPED CHILDREN MAKE A VILLAINOUS TALE ABOUT THEM BEING LIKE THAT, THAT IS FAR MORE ENJOYABLE THAN READING ABOUT HOW THEY "SAVE CHILDREN THAT ACTUALLY ARE JUST HURT"Thank you, Ahdieh, Meyer, Pon and Schwab, for actually making this book enjoyable.In a little more depth:Ahdieh wrote a character that was already a little bit villainous and then turned into a true villain over the course of the story, it was fascinating to read.Meyer managed to write a character that didn't know they were doing anything wrong and still make them dislikable. The plottwist with the betrayal made me genuinely surpised and I love what Meyer did with it. I found myself surpised, because I really haven't liked anything else Meyer has written, but good job Meyer.Pon wrote a beautiful story that actually made you sympathise with the villain while still acknowledging that they are a villain. Dragging two different cultures together to create a new story is a very bold and beautiful move. Pon's writing is also magnificent.Schwab's story was just plain amazing, with a interesting twist around every corner. A lovely read

This anthology is deliciously villainous. I enjoyed every one of the thirteen stories that comprised BECAUSE YOU LOVE TO HATE ME, though Victoria Schwab's "Death Knell" was probably the best of the lot with its gorgeous prose and twisty plot. If you are a lover of short stories and anthologies, this is certainly one not to miss.

It's difficult to rate an anthology 5 stars, but the majority of these stories were so twisted and disturbing and ultimately phenomenal that they thoroughly crushed any negative thoughts I may have had in a fiery death along with everything else.

I would rate each story separately because I love them all for different reasons but that would take forever so I'll just name a few of my favorites. First of all, I love and adore villains. I've never connected with heroes of stories, I'm not perfect and I know myself well enough that if I ever received a superpower I wouldn't be the one stopping bank robbers with it. I mean realistically how many of us would? I've always secretly rooted and understood where villains stand just a little bit more. I mean in Harry Potter when voldy says hey give me Potter and no war needs to happen, who else didn't think this is an easy fix. I mean all these people died and he still went out into the woods anyways, why did they have to die?!? Story, I know, but realistically. Also I'm not saying I'd sacrifice one for the many but weigh your options I guess. Now don't go thinking I'm a horrible person, just average who knows herself well enough to have self identified as a Slytherin from the very first time I read the first book. Not all Slytherins are evil but ambition has the ability to be corrupted. So I know my flaws and work with them not against them. Anyways, too much about me and not enough about why I love this book. I love villains. I'm not saying I want them to win. I'm not Barney from How I Met Your Mother, here. I just get it. So an anthology retelling of all these stories I knew it would be heaven for my eyes because their plights make sense. Now some of my favorites were "The Blessing of Little Wants" by Sarah Enni, "Death Knell" by V.E. Schwab, "Julian Breaks Every Rule" by Andrew Smith, and "Sera" by Nicola Yoon. Each had a unique villain with a twist and Julian was just plain funny. I laughed the majority of the story and at the end was like WHAT!?! So it was a delight. Now my absolute favorite that tore my heart out was "Beautiful Venom my Cindy Pon, it was a medusa retelling in China medusa being Mei Du... It broke my heart and all the feels I could ever have. I actually cried. It's literally filled with social commentary on rape cultural and how victims get treated past, present, and future though I have hope. If you pick this book up I'd suggest just skipping straight to this story. The others are wonderful and I don't discount them in any way but this one hit me and touched me and I just... I feel so close to Mei Du, I wanted to hug her before and after as a villain. She deserved so much more than what she got and just... I don't know how to tell you to go read it anymore than I already have but if I can only spread it this way I will. I will forever love this story and so I'll forever love this book.

I loved these stories! Have me a whole new view on villains! And a whole new view of the authors writing these stories!

This "practical guide" contains a wealth of information. Chapters on Materials Safety Data Sheets and labeling, training programs and drills, flammability and combustibility, storage of laboratory chemicals, federal regulations, safe disposal of chemical waste, laboratory design, and fume hoods were the most useful, in my opinion. The chapter that listed causes of accidents was not very helpful, except as a checklist of things to avoid, and the penultimate chapter on using audiovisual materials in safety training was short and outdated. The fume hood chapter, which was actually a good read, was obviously written by someone who knows a lot about chemical fume hoods and should probably be required reading for anyone involved in building or renovating a laboratory.

As an omnivore, I hugely appreciate the attention to flavor, color, and texture of these recipes. Good news! You can eat well and do good at the same time. Fresh, colorful veggies are central to many dishes, with a supporting cast of herbs, spices, citrus, and grains to make them pop. Cashew milk, rice paper bacon, and peanut butter cups are all things you can make at home (who knew?!). Nutritional yeast reveals its transformative powers! Old favorites are brought back to life in tasty new forms--sloppy joes, pierogis, mac and cheese, pop tarts, burgers, crab cakes, buffalo wings, and pumpkin pie. Oh, and the book itself is stunning. This is a vegan cookbook that will surprise and delight everyone. Even the omnivores!

It's a fun read with beautiful visuals and done in a way that's perfect for anyone. Whether someone is just starting to look to eat better for the world and themselves, or someone who's been eating that way for years, it's a solid fit for all. I highly recommend it!

I've been waiting for this book to come out ever since I discovered it (pre-release) on the Good Food Institute website. It's a beautiful book, inside and out. The argument is solid - a plant based diet is kinder to our planet. The recipes are imaginative and varied, proving that a plant based diet can be delicious and interesting (I am so excited by the Oyster Mushroom a la Mariniere!) My boyfriend does not follow a vegan diet, but he is inching closer. This book may well push him across the line. Thanks!

Matt’s book stands apart from all their modern vegan / health / environment books that have been published in the past decade. I’ve become jaded, and skip right to the recipe section. He’s a brilliant writer, and kept my attention throughout the entire book. Within the chapters there are fantastic blurbs from celebrities and political figures relating to veganism, but it didn’t feel like fluff.The recipes themselves are exciting, with easy to follow directions and beautiful photos. This book is a must add to your cookbook collection.

In October 2013, I awoke with suicidal thoughts. I had been drinking 1 liter of vodka every day for several months. Something within me enabled me to take myself to the hospital, where I was admitted to the psychiatric unit. There, I detoxed from alcohol. I as transferred to a chemical dependency treatment center; I read The Body Never Lies and Free From Lies. Through reading both of these books, I as able to discover the root of my anxiety, depression, addiction, and, ultimately, suicidal ideation. Alice Miller's writing made me realize that I was not to blame. I was not a "bad seed," as I had been led to believe by my mother. Depression was my body's way of coming to my aid -- of insisting that the truth be heard and processed. Through journaling and many conversations with my peers in treatment, I was able finally to love and protect myself, as I had never been loved and protected before. The persons to whom I should have been able to turn for protection and empathy, I instead had to fear and mistrust. It is extremely freeing to finally attribute my self-destructive behavior, mental illnesses and addiction to abuse. Alice Miller's work changed my life, and I believe I would be dead were it not for reading these books. I have recently enrolled in college, and my goal is to earn my bachelor's in psychology, then master's, and eventually become a psychotherapist. Rest in peace, Alice. As a survivor of child abuse, I have often turned to her writings. But somehow this title escaped me.I officially resigned from my faith of more than 20 years about a year ago for a number of reasons. The demand that my continued pain was my fault because somehow I was not praying enough or correctly caused me to feel cursed with toxic shame. Then, there were the demands that I not only forgive my perpetrators but to pray for them was just beyond my ability to accept. The only means that I could maintain any sense of dignity was to resign from "all of that (religious) self-righteousness."It was after this resignation that I then discovered this book. And, felt acknowledged as a noble being rather being forced to live in the shadows of the sins of my perpetrators. It was their sins & they did their best to convince me of that.ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!

I thought this was an interesting approach to exploring the impact of a parent's abuse on the child using examples of famous authors. However, I thought it was repetitious. It could have been half as long or less and conveyed the same points.Also, I think that there were a number of conclusions drawn or at least suggested, that had no evidence to support.Do I believe abuse by parents harms children? Absolutely. Do I believe that when a person denies the abuse they suffered at the hands of their parent it is more harmful than working through it and acknowledging it? Absolutely. In fact, I believe that too many adults allow their parents to continue to abuse them. I also believe that sometimes, adults need to completely cut ties with an abusive parent who is unable to stop behaving ways that harm them.I appreciate Alice Miller for sharing this perspective, helping to raise awareness and letting readers know it is okay to acknowledge the harm their parents have inflicted.

Arrived quickly and as listed. I love this book. Alice Miller is a gift for those that come from Abusive Childhoods and need more answers than 'Just forgive your Parents' - in some childhoods this is impossible. Understanding we can live fulfilled lives and lives that are 'healthier for our bodies and minds' by releasing ourselves from the Poisonous Pedagogy and the 4th Commandment (which is really emotional blackmail) and divorce our abusive families to finally feel the inner and body peace we've all longed for. Our bodies literally get sick from holding the lies, abuse, expectations and shame of our families. When we can finally tell the truth and step away from this emotional blackmail; our bodies and minds heal. Brilliant and Important Psychology for the 21st Century.

This book is intense. It flies in the face of traditional thought and contradicts my own attempts to resolve the feelings I've carried from my abusive childhood. Yet my feelings weren't resolved, and Alice Miller's work helped me understand why. I've given up a good bit of my life trying to get the attention and understanding that my (now deceased) parents didn't give me, in either childhood or adulthood. I'll now be looking for a way to acknowledge those feelings and grow beyond them.

I had already realized that I experienced a cruel and neglectful childhood upbringing at the hands of self-absorbed narcissistic parents. Finally, at the age of 47 with the help of a family therapist I was able to reprocess my family-of-origin experiences from my adult point of view, armed with family systems knowledge that I had never been exposed to. As a result, I was able to eliminate the unhealthy shame and guilt which I was unaware that I still carried from childhood. Slowly,, my depression disappeared and has never returned. This therapeutic experience finally enabled an SSRI to have its intended effect. I had tried unsuccessfully for many years with many so-called CBT therapists to get better. Not one of these self-professed experts ever delved into my family-of-origin experiences. What I love about this book is the emphasis on determining your own truth. And how can you possibly do that without examining your personal history as far back as you can remember, and if possible, with the help of family and friends? It is well worth the effort!
