*reviewed by Sophie for Mundie Kids:Oh, the pain of writing out Valentine's Day cards. I just went through this with my youngest two kids. This story illustrates how tricky it can be to personalize the sentiment inside cards. Should you be mean to those who were not nice to you? Should you sign someone else's name to them? Well, Gilbert does both and the pain of watching your classmates get mad at each other wears on him. Also, the fact that people eventually figure out who wrote the "bad" cards is a valuable lesson.As I tell my children, lies have short legs. Gilbert discovers just this as the kids who were mean to him (and he wrote the bad poems to) are sorry and he realizes that treating people the way you want to be treated is the best way to keep peace.

My 4 yo son really liked this book. It was perfect to read before Valentine's Day and had a great message about being a good friend. I was concerned that my son might learn some mean things to say- due to the title, but he didn't repeat anything. :) I think the story did a good job expliaing/illustrating the importance of being nice.

Bought this for my 3rd grade grandson. He loved it! Very cute, good lesson in using good words, even when dealing with difficult people.

My kids loved the way this book was written. They laughed at the silly Valentine poetry (and spent days making up their own!) and we were able to have a great conversation about he deeper lesson in the story. Super good book and you can't beat the price.

Grandkids loved this book. Story with a strong message for kids. Five year old was quite excited to have it as it had been read to his class at school.

Very cute book. Got this for my 8 year old and put it in his backpack on Valentine's Day. His Teacher saw it and thought it was great. She read it to the entire class!

This book is perfect for K/1st grade. I am a mom and a teacher and it’s a favorite! Kids will get a good lesson and a laugh out of it.

My 6-year-old granddaughter loved this book. She was able to read it by herself, and it made her laugh. I recommend this book.

This is my daughter's favorite Valentine book. She loved it last year when she was 3, and it is still her favorite this year at 4 years old. She has memorized the story and can "read" it to us. She does think the nose tweaking is much funnier this year. It has a great lesson in how to treat our friends, and how to use our words for kindness. The illustrations are also quite lovely!
