Most of the story is still slice of life, with the main character (MC) switching between town building, level grinding, and crafting. I personally, love to read about town building, crafting, and action adventure. This has all that in spades. In addition, the novel introduces a couple new elements. One, new beta players join the goblin village and they get their own adventures. Two, there’s a mystery who-done-it subplot where the MC tries to track down a saboteur. Both are good added elements that help break up the longer chunks of crafting and town building. The last 25% though could easily be its own stand alone novel, there’s a full plot arc and lots of purposeful action with a great story climax.Overall, the story maintains all the elements I enjoyed from book 1, refines them, and even adds in some new interesting ones. It took a while to finish this massive novel, but I had a great time doing so.Score: 8 out of 10
This is a very good story but I have a hard time believing that a level 315 Mage can be defeated by a character less than level 50. Would a level 50 rabbit be killed by a level 1 fighter? Maybe, but a level 315 Mage killed by @ 40 level goblin shaman/hybrid?Plus, is any sane person going to turn the other cheek and instantly forgive some psychopathic chick who just blew up your village that you spent the last few months building with her justification being that it was done in the spirit of role-play? I would have fed her to Nihilator. Also near the end of the book, Vatras' guild was called Manipulators rather than Manapulators.Otherwise pretty good.
I have Kindle unlimited so was hesitant to buy this second book. Yes, the reviews were high but I just hate what I thought was a bad decision to not add this book to Kindle Unlimited.....so, I read the first book again. Then I decided that the price was cheap for the number of pages in the second book, and bought it. I'm reading it a second time, that's how good it is. I think you will enjoy it too.** SPOILERS ** Here are my ideas based on what happened in the book.1. Dude, shadows obey you. Use them more and blind your opponents.2. Teleport more! You should have teleported the goblin bombs to the healers and mages and bypassed the tanks3. Let's take an enemy to Annihilator. I want to see if he appreciates the new victims. (muuhahahah)4. Don't leave any meat behind!!! You need to make some wagons.5. The wall needs to be made of your best material and INSTALL A GATE for pity's sake6. If your protective bubble can block an entry, then it can encapsulate and enemy. Teleport to them, cast your shield, then teleport out leaving them stuck until your minions can get there. Fill the inside of your shield with shadow, blind the captured bad guy, then drop the shield. Everyone should get a sneak attack or at least an attack that does critical damage.7. Remember that alarm you made. Why didn't you use them???8. Are your guys doing a good job of looting the field of battle? I expected your treasure chest to filled with more stuff.
I read a ton of these things (Isekai, or, lost in another world genre). I highly recommend this one. At the time of writing this review, my Kindle has 980 books on account. This series is easily top 10% in trash fantasy I've read, and I don't mean trash fantasy as a pejorative. The author is writing from a city building/MMORPG gaming perspective, and, for what it is, it works well. He avoids the obvious traps, the character and his teams are pathetically underleveled, so there is no danger of the "now that you have slain the uber boss, here is the next super uber boss, that we never mentioned, but somehow has been your enemy all along!" garbage one finds all too often. In short, this series has plenty of room to grow. He runs several story lines in each novel, so the reader doesn't get bored or insulted by the 'start/problem' ---> 'big fight/end' plot typical to the genre. And these books are large, so a very satisfying read. One criticism to the author. The Oren/Vic dynamic is fairly rote. You could really be doing more with Vic, he's the most wooden and predictable character in the series, where he could be the most original and unique.
That. Was. Awesome!Shermer Kuznits did an amazing job on this, managing to improve on the first book, which was already one of the best LitRPG works to be published.I was concerned that this would have less city-building, but the same mechanics that set this apart from other books still prevail, and the reader gets to follow Oren's decision making process as he balances his resource constraints to get as much as he can within his limits. If you are at all interested in LitRPG, you should read this series. Hell, if you are at all interested in writing LitRPG, you must read this series. This may be the best LitRPG of 2018.
Wonderful instalment.Story development, world building, and characters are all superb. I'm so happy this author has taken his time to create this world, showcasing what litrpg can be.When reviewing litrpg, I feel an intense need to state if a story displays proper grammar and spelling. This is one of the few that is well written.Would love to read more, as long as the author keeps to the high standards of the first two books.
Oren's (Bread Totem's) story continues into an epic climax, the entire book is essentially just the Greenpiece Clan trying to prepare for the inevitable battle coming their way. If you enjoyed the first book you absolutely need to read this one. New players have begun popping up in the area as goblinoid classes giving the clan a chance against the much stronger invading force. It's good to be chief.
