Unless you are a Sheikh living in the USA, which I doubt, and know the intricacies of the American economy, this book is an absolute requirement for your Zakat calculation. The book features a worksheet style approach, and as you read through it, you fill in those blanks. Finally, you sum it all together and voila!I do not know if I like the simplicity of the book more or the way it encompasses the average American Joe's (Heh) need.God bless Joe and reward him generously.

Great and mostly straight to the point.I liked the clear explanation for zakat on rental properties. However, while calculating CRI seems easy for one stock, it’s not clear to me how to calculate CRI for an index fund that has hundreds of stocks.

Finally the way this book is written it is easy to adhere financially to the blessings of our faith this young man has surpassed his offering for devotion to people who truly wish to worship in every aspect of their life

Good intro, was hoping for a textbook as opposed to a worksheet formant, but I still learned and may consider using this in the future

Great book. Simple and easy to follow. Also provides easy to use worksheets / templates in the back you can photocopy and use annually.

Excellent guide that is very easy to follow for the average person, and even one new to understanding Zakat.

Perfect, practical and easy to use . Jazaka Allahu Khairan

Very simple yet comprehensive and authoritative. Well written.

This is by far the worst textbook I have had for any course. The author has "end of chapter" questions that have not been mentioned within the text at all. How are you supposed to correctly answer a question the writer never mentioned? It's ridiculous. Like an idiot, I purchased the electronic version, as well as the paperback because I figured that even though I read through the chapter twice, maybe I just didn't remember seeing a subject matter addressed within the chapter. Wrong. I did a word search for several keywords in the questions, and there is nothing in the entire textbook referenced at all. If you are a teacher and you are considering this book for your curriculum, I beg you not to, unless you like student complaints that you are helpless to address. It's an awful book.

This book was a syllabus requirement for one of my quality assurance classes. It was a simple book to learn from, as there were several drawings and illustrations explaining several dimensional metrology factors. The chapters are pretty much spelled out with each section focusing on a different metrology subject matter. A book on this subject matter can be intimidating to read especially for those who are just starting out with learning about the subject. The author does a great job explaining everything through wording and illustrating which shows the author really does know metrology very well. I was very pleased with this book and I still use it as a reference to this day.

Very dry reading. Of all my CNC class books, this one is definitely the most boring to read. The graphics could be better, as well. An example, there is a diagram of a engine lathe. There were tons of names and arrows to the parts, however, the diagram was so small, you needed a magnifying glass to see what they were pointing at. Either explode some parts, then label them, or have the diagram take up the entire page.

As some others have said, this book would be great for hobbyists. There's a wealth of information in it that is invaluable to machinists, metrologists, engineers and the like. That said, I'm not a hobbyist - I'm a student. As of this writing(Spring 2013), Morrisville State College uses this book for theirDimensional Metrology course. As a teaching aid, this book is awful. Thequestions are vague - poorly worded, and with little indication ifseveral answers are desired (as is often the case). The chapters arepoorly organized. If you need to go back into a chapter to look forspecific information, good luck finding it.This book tries to pander to English and Metric units, and it does sopoorly. Sometimes, it will address English first and then (the nextparagraph, perhaps) Metric. Other times, it will do the opposite. Thereare still other times when it tries to tackle both at once, and itrenders passages of the book unreadable. The writing style of the book is the horrible love-child of "incrediblydry" and "get to the point!". There's lots of superfluous wording andanecdotes, and all of it is a chore to plod through.Originally written in the 1960's, the Band Aid's applied over the yearscertainly show. Many of the images ("Figures", in book-speak) havecaptions only tangentially related to them. The image may have thingslabeled A, B, C, etc. on it, but the labels are never addressedanywhere else in the text.If you're someone that *wants* to learn about dimensional metrology, I'msure you could overlook this book's flaws. For people that *need* tolearn it, these flaws are inexcusable, especially at this price point.

It's what I needed and it's what it says it is. The cover had some damage but its a used book and the new edition is 170 bucks so this is a steal.

filled with good information on measurement.

Recieved as described for dads education

Something as straightforward as dimensional metrology should not be ambiguous. The author must have really hated writing this book (I admit, it is an incredibly dull subject). The review questions are not well written and don't really help in relating to the material and are frustrating at best. The subject matter is correct for the most part, however there is contradicting information and many typos throughout.. the first few chapters make this obvious immediately. I can't recommend this book to anyone. I'm sure there are better books out there for this subject. The best way to learn the fundamentals of dimensional metrology is to get hands on time with all of the tools.. This just shows lots of pictures and theories on how and when to use them.

After reading "Probiotic Revolution" this book was simplistic, but easy to understand without being overwhelming. Not a "keeper" for me, I'll donate it to the library.I was hoping for more sophisticated recipes. They were pretty redundant and unimaginative. But I would recommend the book to someone new to probiotics. Charts and things make it easy to understand.Maybe I'll keep it!

This is a really nice book with many pictures and recipes. The recipes are easy and look delicious. There are early chapters with a lot of excellent info on the role of probiotics for health. It's really a lovely book that was put together to be easthetically pleasing as well as informationally useful. If you need probiotics in your diet, this is a good book to have. The recipes won't necessarily work miracles for your health by themselves but they will inform you on how to enhance your diet with foods that have pre/probiotic qualities. The only criticism I'd have of it would be that the recipes aren't as potent for probiotics as could be designed by let's say a real master, perhaps an experienced herbalist who cooks for healing. That would make it a much better book. So don't get your healing hopes up too high when you get this book. I have a book on chinese medicine that has a few recipes for healing in it that really work-- that's what I mean. Other than that, this is a fine book.

This is very insightful about how what we eat effects our digestive system and hence our energy level and overall well being. I have tried a few of the recipes - really easy and good. I definitely feel better since adhering to Tracy's advice. This book is a definite keeper.

Quick service and good quality-very satisfied!

I have tried many of the recipes in this book and some of them have been a part of my regular meal repertoire for years now. The scientific information is solid and the author's style is engaging.

Not the book to choose if you suffer with candida. You have to be strict to starve the yeast and this book includes foods you should avoid.

book was in condition it was stated to be in but contents of book not so good for my needs

When I read this book, I just thought 'wow' - and not in a good way. This book is very unlike most books on this topic. There are so many good health books out there which go against the conventional wisdom and offer valuable information that is not in the mainstream. This is not one of those books. The information in this book is of the quality you would see in any lightweight news story on health on television or in the Sunday papers health sections.Readers are warned about the immense 'dangers' of taking any type of probiotic supplements in pill form, despite their long safety record as one of the safest supplements there is. Readers are also warned that they may cause gas and bloating but the author seems to be unaware that these symptoms are to be expected when taking probiotics and are actually a sign you want to see, as it is a sign they are working!Yet the book also recommends the hugely dangerous statin drugs and many, many other drugs and doesn't so much as mention the huge problems associated with them which occur in a very high percentage of users. For information on the huge risk of statin drugs and why the saturated fat/cholesterol = heart disease hypothesis is dead, see books such as Good Calories, Bad Calories: Fats, Carbs, and the Controversial Science of Diet and Health (Vintage) andThe Great Cholesterol Con: The Truth About What Really Causes Heart Disease and How to Avoid It and Cholesterol: The Real Truth. The book warns against saturated fat and recommends a low fat diet, and even such heavily processed and problematic items such as egg substitutes and no-fat milk. (No fat milk contains dry milk power which contains oxidised cholesterol, and also possibly whey protein. This makes this type of milk a very poor choice for health and especially so for anyone that has allergies.)According to this book, sugar-filled fruit yogurts (which feed the bad bugs) full of chemicals are a good healthy choice while probiotic supplements which have been used with success by a vast number of practitioners, are not. The book also cautions about listening to anyone who says that HFCS is bad for you and says there is no need to avoid products which contain it.The treatments for Candida the book recommends are anti-fungal creams and suppositories. This book lacks the most basic understanding of treating the cause of disease and not just suppressing the symptoms with drugs. We can get this same low quality and biased information from the media each day, why write a book on it?It is claimed that non-prescription niacin can cause liver failure, but there is no evidence for this claim whatsoever. (See books by Abram Hoffer for the facts about niacin.) Readers are warned that only prescription niacin is safe. The book is ultra-conservative with anything that isn't drug based, and super permissive with the acceptance of all drugs. Sources quoted in this book are the USDA, the Mayo Clinic and the CDC which says a lot, I think. The basic diet advice is also poor. High carb foods feed the bad bugs and to advise those with bowel problems to avoid fats and meats just makes no sense, as genuine books on restoring gut health such as Gut and Psychology Syndrome and Internal Bliss-GAPS Cookbook (2 Books) and Breaking the Vicious Cycle: Intestinal Health Through Diet explain. If you think fruit flavoured low fat yogurts with lots of sugar in, egg substitutes, graham crackers, margarine, pasta and oat bran muffins and the like are health foods, and that the RDAs for each of the vitamins are more than adequate, and you can survive on a low fat and low protein diet that is very high in carbs, then this might be the book for you.If not I would recommend any of the books listed above or the book Nourishing Traditions: The Cookbook that Challenges Politically Correct Nutrition and the Diet Dictocrats. These are real health books that are full of recipes containing real food ingredients that are genuinely good for you. Making your own 24 hour yogurt will do so much more for you than buying store-bought sugary yogurts with minuscule amounts of good bugs in. You can feel the difference after just a few days. The two products are like chalk and cheese! The one star rating is for the recipes this book contained to make your own kefir and kimichi, and also for the recommendation to eat foods such as these as this is also good advice.

Review

"If you care about great beer and great storytelling, this book is essential reading. Josh Noel gives us a fresh look at a fascinating business, laced with new details, sharply drawn characters, and high stakes. Barrel-Aged Stout and Selling Out is deeply reported and always a delight to read."—Jonathan Eig, author of Ali and Luckiest Man “Josh Noel has accomplished the very rare trick of telling a fascinating story that reveals the larger world it inhabits—in this case, how craft beer went from underdog to unlikely sensation. This is an essential book for anyone interested in beer, and also a really fun read.” —Jeff Alworth, author of The Beer Bible   “A well-researched and well-written book about the most exciting and dynamic era in America’s commercial beer history since Prohibition. I couldn’t put it down and I shared it with a co-worker as soon as I finished reading it.” —Sam Calagione, founder of Dogfish Head Brewery, author of Brewing Up a Business and Project Extreme Brewing “A thorough and compelling look at craft beer's wild history and complicated future. As an early brewpub sibling to Goose Island, I can easily say there's a detailed story here worth digging into." —John Hickenlooper, Colorado governor and former owner of Wynkoop Brewing   “Josh Noel deftly details the facts and passions surrounding one of the most contentious defections in craft beer history. Behind it, he shows us the dramatic story of two men—father and son—whose journey from struggling start-up to global beer brand changed both beer menus and industry loyalties in ways that will be talked about for decades to come.” —Ray Daniels, founder of the Cicerone Certification Program and author of Designing Great Beers    “Josh Noel tells the story of Goose Island founder John Hall and his son, Greg, with sympathy and understanding, leaving the reader to decide if it is a triumph for craft brewers, a tragedy for the craft movement, or both.” —Steve Hindy, cofounder of Brooklyn Brewery and author of Beer School A "briskly written narrative ... (an) accessible introduction to the business of brewing." —Wall Street Journal “Fans of good beer will enjoy Noel’s explorations, which make for a useful cautionary tale as well.” —Kirkus Reviews“I also found myself appreciating, as I tucked into the book, that it functions both as a history and as an illuminating look into how the world’s largest beer conglomerate tends to do business...in the course of reading, I was entertained and informed in equal measure.”  —Jim Vorel, Paste  “The book is, beyond its many amazing revelations, quite a page-turner. Because Noel interviewed so many people (107 names are listed, and a note mentions there were additional anonymous sources), there’s real personality throughout.” — Jeff Alworth, Beervana.com"Noel tells Goose Island’s story through the receipts, the sales numbers, the emails, and the time-stamped text messages, delivering what is, in retrospect, a clear look at big beer’s bungled first attempt to take over craft brewing” and adds “He covers tons of ground, but keeps enough of an eye on the humanity of Goose’s story that his book is more than a novel-length business study.” — Karl Klockars, Chicago magazine"Noel's book is a must-read for any craft beer fan, beer media personnel and of course anyone in beer —macro or craft." — PorchDrinking.com"You will better understand the battle for craft beer's soul that began when Goose Island was sold when you close the last page of the book...this is a must-read history for any fan, casual or obsessed, of beer." — The Full Pint

This book is just amazing and I highly recommend it. The research of the history of beer in America and the details on how beer has evolved since Goose Island’s founding is incredible. While there are many great takeaways, even the people who are purely anti “Big Beer” can’t deny Goose Island’s impact on the craft beer industry. Just seeing the people who have come through Goose Island and the breweries those people have built or impacted in some way - New Glarus, Perennial, Off Color, Fremont, Side Project, Firestone Walker, Revolution - tells you that Goose Island has had a positive impact on American beer. And as a marketing and PR person, reading about behind-the-scenes strategies was an added benefit. Was not expecting to get some great marketing takeaways when I decided to purchase this book. Thanks for writing this Josh. It was great to see the history of how everything has evolved. I absolutely flew through it and I’m already recommending it to friends.

If you are even marginally interested in the current/recent dynamic between the independent craft beer business and the big boys this book is an absolute must read. The book is very well researched and yet is an easy read. I follow the business a bit but I learned a lot about the inner workings. This is a subject worthy of a back story and the author does it beautifully. He also does not take sides. After reading it is clearly up to the reader to reach their own conclusions about who is the good guy. I won't spoil the book; but if you love beer you'll love this one!

Being a home brewer with a long time interest in beers, I've had some general ideas of how the industry works and it's primary players, mostly formed by bits and pieces of news and other scattered information. This book paints a very clear and comprehensive picture of who, what, where, and reveals more of the stories and motivations behind the snippets that have been presented to the public. If you consume and care about beer, this book will give you a greater appreciation for what you are drinking and how it got to you. Even if you don't have any interest in beers, you will find this book to be a captivating narrative about small business, big business, and all the interesting characters and events that turned a simple shelf of Bud Miller Coors into an entire aisle of Bud Miller Coors with a multitude of different labels.

I loved reading about the history of the craft beer revolution from Goose Island’s perspective in the new book from Josh Noel. John Hall’s journey, Greg Hall’s rise, the early brewpub, and the story of Bourbon County Stout. It’s all so fascinating. What I enjoy the most is the incorporation of craft beer’s historical cast of characters from around the world that each offer a bit of color to an already enthralling tale. To see familiar names and what they have to say about Goose Island gives its story even more depth. All of it is presented in an informed and objective way by Noel, who does a good job of providing well-researched facts and great details that help paint a picture of the time, place, and people behind Goose Island’s ascendancy. The work Noel put in to find out the real story and tell it in a way that anyone could understand deserves recognition. The author lets us as the reader see the people behind the story for who they really are and made them relatable humans. A great read!

How did they go from being one of America’s best breweries to being a brewery prominently featured in every Buffalo Wild Wings and airport bar in the world? You’ll find out in this excellent book. It’s a tragic tale of a brewery becoming what they always hated.

The book is split into 2 parts that tell the rise of Goose Island and then the fallout from the selling of the brewery to ABI and how it effected the employees of Goose Island and the craft beer landscape overall. The author has a great way of giving the reader the relevant information without laboring a point. He is also adept at showing the events in the book from multiple sides: the Goose Island employees, the Halls, ABI executives as well as influential folks in the craft beer world. A great read and I highly recommend it.

This was a real treat to read. As a highly critical beer drinker who was a patron at Goose Island from the beginnings, Josh Noel's carefully researched account captures the essence of the rise, expansion, and sell off of many of the most recognized crafts beers. It is told in the setting of the beer industry, however it is as much a chronical of the consolidation of industry in the world economy. This is much more than a book about beer. I especially enjoyed how Noel discusses the forces and setting for the craft beer revolution, and the history of bland American lagers. It is entertaining, thorough, and written with a colorful tone. One of the best non-fiction works I have read in years.

I'll be the first to admit that I don't know that much about the beer business, and my taste in beer itself would hardly be called adventurous. Also, usually, I read novels, but I picked this book up on the recommendation of a friend. Turns out it's a fascinating and well-told story. It seems strange to call a non-fiction book like this a "page turner," but that's what this book is! I highly recommend it.

I just finished reading Spitfire Girls. Loved it, tears, joy, frustration, anger and sadness. You portrayed these women so well, it was like knowing them personally. I hope the young who read this gain some understanding and perspective of what their grandmothers went through. They were often such strong women who were so unappreciated.I didn't want it to finish.I loved the ending. As an ex WRAN who served during Vietnam I could relate to aspects of this. Thank you again, I wish I could have given it more than 5 stars.

Soraya M. Lane’s terrific historical novel is about strong, remarkable women that carved out their own unique roles in WWII history. I loved this story and can’t recommend it enough!

Thank you to Lake Union Publishing for the free review copy in exchange for an honest review!World War II era historical fiction books are one of my favorite time periods to read about. The war affected so many people in so many different countries that there seems to always be a new aspect of the war to learn about. The Spitfire Girls by Soraya M. Lane was the first book I've read about the female pilots in the English ATA program and the US WASP program. I loved reading about a new element of the war that I haven't previously know much about. It was interesting to learn a little about the programs and the women who fought for the chance to help out with the war effort in the best way they could.Unfortunately, this book fell short for me. It was largely due to the unlikable US pilot, Lizzie Dunlop. The character felt like a stereotype. Americans are often portrayed as rude and egotistical. Sure some people are (just like in every other country), but this book seemed to really stress that she was a rude, obnoxious American. She relaxes a little later in the book, but by that point, I disliked her too much to care. I did enjoy the English characters, May Jones and Ruby Sanders (except for the obsession with makeup). It was interesting to get a glimpse behind the scenes of the types of things the English pilots endured and the way they were treated while they were just trying to help their countrymen in the war.I'm one of the those readers who loves to learn more about the true stories behind the historical fiction and I usually look things up and read more about it. Another aspect of the book that I did not care for was giving the achievements of real women like Jackie Cochran and Pauline Gower to fictional characters. In some way, it feels like it takes away from all the things those real women accomplished.

This story is based on the historical British flyers known as "the Spitfire Girls" during World War II. Not only did I learn a great deal about those heroic women, I fell in love with the three distinct and original characters featured in the novel. There will be no confusion about who's who in this book, because author Soraya M. Lane has given each of the women a very different and rich inner life, relationships, and problems. And in Lizzie, she has created one of the most unique and unexpected heroines that I've ever enjoyed getting to know in a book. The idea of flying during the war might sound exciting, but these women took real risks and not for any kind of personal glory, but rather simply because of a desire to help win the war. Each young woman triumphs in her own way, and the journey is rich and multi-layered to keep you interested.Just the right amount of conflict and spice and romance, this novel will not disappoint. Highly recommended for not only fans of historical fiction, but anyone who loves a great story. Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read the book in advance.

This story is a bit different from the other books I’ve read by this author so far, but I soon fell into the story and found myself wanting to learn more about these incredible women. There is some romance in this story, but that’s not what it’s all about. It’s about women finding their voice. Women proving they have a use other than looking pretty. Women learning to work together to be stronger. Along the way they aren’t always treated fairly or with the respect they deserve, but they also come across some incredible men who support them for who they are and never try to hold them back. Ruby story, in particular, is quite the roller coaster. Her grit and determination, regardless of what those back home say, is inspiring. While I respected all of the characters in this book and found them all fascinating, I feel Lizzie had the longest and most important journey. I started off loving her, until she met up with the other women. Then she really had me pulling my hair out. She had the most lessons to learn, but once she saw the light there was no stopping her. Once she learned that not everyone was opposed to her, and some people (men and women alike) were actually trying to help her, her life became much easier. There’s nothing like the connection of a group of people who have gone through adversity together. These women are a special bunch. I like to think the real women who took on these roles in the US and Great Britain during World War II were just as spunky and full of life as these fictional ladies. Maybe even more so!It took me a few chapters to really get deep into this story, but it was so worth the read.**I received an ARC of this book courtesy of Net Galley and the publisher.
