I received and began reading the Kindle version of The Lead Guitarist & The Sisterhood of the Wolf a few days ago and could not put it down! I had to finish it! It is so lovingly and kindly told. The story addresses how each of us can be held back by the fear of the unknown, and frozen by those fears. If we are fortunate enough to find a friend, mentor, parent, teacher, or someone such as the author himself who can reach us and help us face that fear, who knows what we can succeed in accomplishing? The simple fact and effort of trying and perhaps trying again, or even trying something else new, expands our minds, our hearts and our souls, giving us the strength to grow, to support the next "Lead Guitarist" who might need us to help them.I can't wait to read the book again and again! I just know that I'll learn more each time, seeing, recognizing, learning something I didn't before.Thank you Greg! Well done once again! CB.

I really enjoyed this book. What a fun, thought provoking and inspiring adventure! It's a spiritual journey told via a tale that everyone can relate to. Once I stared reading it, I could not wait until I had time to read the next chapter.

Fantastic! Couldn’t put it down until I finished it

Captivating! Once you start reading this wonderfully inspiring book, you will find it difficult to put down. It reaches the very core of our interconnectedness and teaches us that a dream can truly come to fruition if we continue to strive for our goals. I love Char's wolf-sister. I hope everyone who reads "The Lead Guitarist & The Sisterhood of the Wolf" experiences the same deep realization of the depth of our being that I did. Enjoy!!!!

I have followed the books by Gregory Drambour and love the spiritual connections and the subtle reminders that life is more than it appears! Greg has a wonderful way of weaving spiritual awakening into every day ordinary lives! The Lead Guitarist And The Sisterhood of the Wolf is a captivating read! I fell in love with the characters! I have also shared it with my grown sons! We all give it a thumbs up

What an enlightening and inspirational read! From the beginning, I realized how much I could relate to the same fears that were holding James back from his destiny. I cheered for Char that her beautiful Wolf Sister would help HER achieve her dream as well. We all need a Wolf Spirit to give us courage. This book has given me hope that if I can let go of fear and my follow my heart, it will lead to me to my destined Spiritual path.

This was such a wholesome read that connected me to my own love for Spirituality, Shamanism, music, creation, facing fears and chasing dreams! I related to the characters on a deep level and could feel the spirit of the 60/70's throughout the book. I highly recommend listening to the song Gregory suggests as you begin reading - a magical experience in itself! I wanted this story to live on forever and it does in my heart! Aho. Kelsey Erin Sky.

GED test 2017, 2016 and GED test premier 2017,They are the same. I have all 3 and there is no difference between them. Are very good books when you combine them with khan academy app videos.

I had been out of school since 2003. A series of unfortunate events led me to have to get my GED. I studied using this book for 4 months on my own time while working full time. I scheduled to take all 4 exams on the same day and wound up passing all of them at the "College Readiness" level or better. This book offers everything you need to pass. (Except the TI calculator. You will need to buy that separately).

This book had everything I needed to know for the test. Their online test setup is identical to the actual GED one. I passed all 4 tests first try and it took me about 3 weeks to study English, a month for math, 7 days social studies and 8 days science. Each time I finished a subject, I took the GED READY test online and then took the Kaplan practice test online. ( It will tell you how to access it when you get the book and register it online) Im also not a native English speaker so I had to translate a lot while studying. The book is simply fantastic!

It's a good study guide. I liked it because I didn't want the kids on the computer all the time. I wanted them to sit and work, focus and ask questions, as I was helping them get through it. Once they did most of the work off of the computer, there are more tests and videos for reinforcement that are on the site linked to their account so overall it was a great resource in my opinion, especially for the cost. If you are looking for a online experience , this isn't for you. The online part is minimal. but the videos are short and to the point good for the problems that they do go over. And, they relate to the problems in the book, but just some of them, the harder concepts. Also, there are solutions to all the problems in the book which is great! I cut off the back of the book where all the solutions are so they could only use them when they tried the problems themselves. Then, they could see what they did wrong and fix it.For a teaching situation, or a self motivated student, I think this is an excellent reference book to study from. I am a teacher, so the opinion you're getting is from that perspective. Personally, I didn't want the computer to be the focus because unless you're watching them 24/7 then kids tend to start looking at other things or looking for answers and I didn't want to have anything else tugging on their attention span:)https://smile.amazon.com/dp/1506209270/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_17

Item came quickly and was in perfect condition. Overall smooth transaction and was happy with the purchase. The book itself is not all it was hoped to be. It does not prepare you properly for the tests despite being the 2017 edition. My husband studied using this book and completed all of the practice tests for the subject he was testing for. When he went to take the test he said it seemed he had studied for the wrong test based on the actual questions on the GED test itself. He did not feel adequately prepared using what this book offered him. I would suggest using this as a supplemental study guide at best, but look into additional study guides or information out there before actually testing.

Best book on the market for passing all four GED tests. My students swear by it and it really helps them to learn what they need for the test.

My wife was prepping for the GED and she said it really helped get her ready for the test. The only reason I gave it 4 out of 5 stars is that there was several questions that I felt were a little confusion in how they were worded, but maybe that is how they are worded on the test also.

I was impresseed that this book is a study guide for all of the 2017 GED exams. I am using this book in my current GED class.

I am a land use attorney for a local government and I would recommend this to lawyers and non-lawyers alike. Incredibly readable, which I appreciate greatly when I am trying to work a book like this into my reading away from work.I think any person engaged with city planning would benefit from reading this book and reflecting on the big picture of how their City approaches zoning in comparison to other cities. I wish I could give a copy to everyone I work with. A lot of the history overview is of material that a seasoned land use lawyer would know, but it is always healthy to refresh. This made me look at our development code with a whole new perspective.

Changes in city planning driven by population shift, and new lifestyle choices, shifts development pattern from sprawl to infill, and redevelopment within existing land use areas. Describes Euclid, Form Based, and other zoning alternatives.

Worth having in the library

A great historical summary and forward looking.

Nice, easy read with good info

Was requested by recipient. I read just a few pages and was pleased with the writing.

I give this rate because of the new book and the paper quality. It can be definitely readable. Great book.

This book analyzes existing zoning codes, and proposes a few ways to make those codes simpler and more predictable. Unlike environmentalist and libertarian critics of zoning, Elliott does not propose a specific vision of urban form, nor does he wish to radically deregulate land use. Rather, he assumes that such radical reforms are unlikely, and seeks to make the status quo less complex and frustrating. For example:*Elliott criticizes out-of-control use regulation. When zoning was born in the 1920s, cities were divided into a few major zones: residential, commercial, industrial, etc. But large buildings in each of these categories often have more of an impact upon neighbors than smaller commercial buildings, and different types of commercial and industrial uses have different effects upon neighbors. As a result, landowners and their neighbors started requesting uses "like the status quo, but a little different" causing the number of zones to multiply. What's wrong with that? As zoning gets more complex, the amount of money and time required to administer zoning has grown.Elliott's solution: divide zones uses into three major categories: single-family residential, mixed-use, and special purpose districts for unusual uses that don't fit well with other uses (such as airports). Single-family residential zones are necessary because that's what buyers want- even in pedestrian-friendy "new urbanist" developments, most houses are in blocks surrounded by houses, even if commercial zones are within walking distance. Mixed-use zones make sense because generally, multifamily housing fits together with commerce, and the line between commercial and light industrial activity is often so blurry that there is no reason for separate one from the other. To deal with problems of scale, there should be a broad range of zones within each category.*Ellliott points out that zoning laws are often based upon standards common for new development at the fringe of a city. Where land is cheap and everything is new, landowners can easily comply with rules requiring lots of parking and building codes that go far beyond the minimum needed to protect safety. But in an older, denser area, landowners cannot recreate suburbia without tearing down lots of buildings- hardly a desirable result.Elliott's solution: Separate development standards for mature neighborhoods, so that zoning preserves their established character rather than forcing landowners to redevelop to new standards or go out of business.*Elliott is concerned that NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard) activism has obstructed development; cities have decided that in addition to setting out zoning rules and approving rezonings, they would require "site plans" so their city councils could get a second look at the impacts of proposed development - thus giving NIMBYs a second chance (after rezoning is approved) to attack development. What's wrong with that? As the ability to build becomes less predictable, developers become scared to build in built-up areas with lots of neighbors; a developer is going to buy land only if it is reasonably certain about what it can build, and "second look" requirements decrease that certainty.Elliott's solution: Final review of a builder's site plans should be performed by planning staff rather than by politicians. That way, once a city has decided that a developer's plans meet the city's zoning code, the developer won't be sabotaged late in the process through political pressure. And to balance NIMBY concerns about density with the public interest in redeveloping older neighborhoods and creating more affordable housing and office space, allow more compact development in ways that don't disrupt existing neighborhoods. For example, allow higher density not by building high-rises in residential areas, but by allowing accessory dwelling units within single-family homes, allowing each new subdivision to contain a few lots smaller than the rest, and allowing "dynamic zoning" that gradually changes over time (e.g. providing that a commercial area's height limit could be the height of the tallest building nearby plus one floor).Elliott also criticizes some alternative visions of zoning regulation, such as form-based codes and a heavier reliance on comprehensive planning. According to Elliott, these tools work in some situations but not all: for example, form-based codes are quite effective in ensuring that memorable, beautiful places stay that way- but aren't really cut out to regulate areas where no one wants to build anything memorable. Comprehensive plans can be useful as long as they guide the city as a whole- but the need to remain flexible and respond to economic change means that today's industrial area might be tomorrow's loft district.

This is the third book by Alda Sigmundsdóttir that I've read since returning from my first trip to Iceland 3 weeks ago. Being of Norwegian heritage, I've always been fascinated about the Vikings discovery and settlement of Iceland, Greenland and Newfoundland ("Vinland"), but I knew very little about that history or the culture that developed in these places.I think of Alda as kind of a "reverse Leif Ericson" - she was born in Iceland and raised in Canada and Western Europe, before returning as an adult to "The Land of the Nice". What's awesome about Alda's books is her perspective as an "outsider's insider", and her super concise, articulate yet informal writing style. The books I've read are collections of short essays, which makes them very quick reads.Think of The Little Book of the Hidden People as an Icelandic version of Grimm's Fairy Tales (Alda makes this comparison). Like Grimm's Fairy Tales, there are clear morals to each story that reinforce cultural values. Now, imagine a book of Grimm's Fairy Tales, where each fable is followed by well researched explanations of that story's cultural and historical context, all written in a very vernacular and accessible style. If you can picture that, and it sounds interesting, go ahead and order this book without delay.

According to legend, Eve , mother of mankind, was asked by god to display all her children. In a bout of laziness she selected he best ones and got them presentable. God counted them and made them royalty, the ones that were hidden were confined to a status of dwelling in boulder and mountains. These are the Huldu folk of Iceland which many refer to as elves.Legend has it that if you are in the wilderness you may suddenly see one of them only to have them disappear into a rock or boulder. Much of the lore about these folk is reminiscent of faerie and elf folklore of old Europe. It was on a whim that I decided to purchase this slender volume and believe me I am glad that I made this purchase. Too bad it was not longer as I consumed this volume in a matter of hours and it left me wanting more. Not only were the stories entertaining and the authoress's notes after each story informative but she also has a strong dose of common sense and strong Icelandic pride.SHe starts off dispelling a rumor put forward in Vanity Fair that most Icelander believe in Elves and will not  begin a construction project unless an elf seer is brought in and determines whther or not it is ok to build there. The authoress states boldy that most people do not believe in elves and that before construction begins the place is checked out to see if there is any valuable archaeology or whether it is important in folklore. After all why destroy your own  history. The stories of the Huldu folk arose from a harsh environment where only the strongest could survive. Believe me old Iceland was tough. Bitter cold, lack of food and primitive lodging made survival difficult. More over men could not marry until they accumulated enough wealth which was tough to do. Sexual relation were limited to reduce the number of births. If  the man of the house died the woman lost everything and was sent forward as a laborer .That meant kids were fostered out and the holding auctioned off. People could disappear in fog drifts or get lost along the way from one farmstead to another.Where as the people were poor, the elves had plenty. Elves were known to seduce mortals, this could explain unwanted pregnancies . Humans were not allowed to dance together because it lead in their eyes to illicit unions. Elves often got people to dance. Being abducted by elves could be used to explain away how a child could get lost in a snow drift or step over a precipice. At least a parent could think the child had found a better life.THe book itself is composed of 21 stories collected orally by the author. THey involve many motifs. One popular motif is a mortal woman called a away from church or home to help an elf woman give birth. Th woman is reward but gets an ointment on her eye that allows her to see elves. When the they find out they nullify the effect of the ointment or use some spittle to weaken the eye. Nicer then the European version where the woman in blinded. Several stories involve women meeting hidden folk in a dairy, being seduced and then made pregnant. Later the child is born and the woman gives it to the Huldu Folk. Later the lover comes back after she is married and the two die in each others arms. The child is sometimes raised by the remaining parent or goes off on it's own. There are also stories of those who disturbed eleves and ended up receiving a poor fortune for it. Others who helped the eleves received good fortune.Enjoy these tales they are a quick and entertaining read and the author opens up a door into the mind and heart of Iceland.

I loved this book for its sociological/anthropological take on Icelandic mythology, rather than the usually inexplicable "fantastic epic" prism taken by many authors who venture into this world. It brings very unique points of views which is what makes indie books, such as this one, very interesting, important and of great relevance to be published. Works of this kind enriches and enlightens the big mass publishing market. I have a special love for Iceland, even though I know so little about it. Books like this one are a great way to learn the history of a country though the eyes of the common folk, the everyday farmer, the ordinary people, and basically through unofficial eyes of written History, done by authorities.

Annoying that the author sets the premise that she wants to tell us traditional stories about elves and hidden people, then says she doesn't believe in them and deconstructs the stories in obvious and not very insightful ways. Just ok. I gave it away as soon as I read it. Meh

This short eBook from Alda is another in her continuing series of informal yet almost 'scholarly' works about Icelandic culture. As with her previous efforts, the only fault I can find with any of them is that I finish them too quickly. This book is a welcome respite from 'cute' and sanitized folk stories. There are lots of sexual escapades, some very peculiar Icelandic customs, as well some touching tales of love ending in grief. Alda does a great job in filling in the background on the stories, some of which would be real 'head-scratchers' without her explanations.

-A wonderful little book and an excellent introduction to Icelandic folklore. I used this as a text for my seminar on world folklore because it gave the students a succinct approach to some standard Icelandic tales in addition to other Icelandic reading they were doing before a study tour to Reykjavik. What was most valuable for our purposes is the author's distinct interpretation at the end of every tale. Her strong point of view allowed for some great discussion on the meaning behind the stories.

We had been to Iceland . I have read several of the little books that have been written . I wish I had read this one before we left. Great book and very interesting .

This book is a lovely introduction to the tales of the hidden people. I appreciated that the stories where not embellished and that locations and genealogical ending remarks where left intact.
