While I was in Alaska on vacation, saw a lot of native artwork using baleen from whales,as the basis of weaving and carving. Got interested in how it was done after a trip thru the Anchorage, AK museum with their excellent exhibits of Native Peoples artifacts. Nothing goes to waste- everything has a purpose. Pictures are great and inspiring. The State of Alaska has a foundation that supports the Native Peoples artwork and the encouragement of others to continue theTraditions.

We have a vintage baleen basket and were always interested in the history behind it. This book was the perfect answer. My husband and I each read it from cover to cover. We learned a lot and it gave us a renewed appreciation for our little basket!

AMAZING book - recommend for any teen or parent going through the struggle - ANY struggle - drugs, eating disorders, social, academic, family, abuse, trauma - the author's story is at once tragic, funny, uplifting, and ultimately hopeful. If SHE got through all of this as a teen, ANYTHING is possible for us and our kids. It's an easy read as well - she gets the point across about difficult moments without pulling the reader into the darkest, scariest, most depressing moments which I really appreciate as a mom. I recommend this book because if you're looking at this book and reading my review, you know already that there are WAAAAY too many details that are currently happening in your family life that you may not be able to share with anyone. Being a parent with a teen who struggles is isolating, because every other parent you're likely to run into is a dedicated cheerleader and PR agent for letting the world know how amazing/talented/successful/funny/brilliant/well balanced their perfect child is. Trust me - they are leaving out a lot of the uglier details when they recount the semester's highlights. This book reminds me that I'm not alone in my struggle as a parent and more importantly, it lets me know that no matter how crazy and difficult things are today, it will all turn out ok. Things will get figured out. It won't always hurt as much as it does today. From social drama at school to dysfunction at home, Cyndy Etler's story is honest, funny, engaging and authentic and I can't imagine navigating my teen's current set of issues without the context, wit, hope and laughs this book provides.

Beautifully written. Cyndy Etler is a true artist with the pen. While her story is horrific and frightening, she manages to provide humor and insight into her experiences. This book is extremely important, as it gives children and teens, and especially sexual assault victims, a voice that they don't otherwise have. Hopefully parents and caretakers (teachers, administrators, etc.) will listen to her story. And you will also understand why "we can't be friends".

Good book my teen likes it

I read the first book and it was pretty good. This one is good but a lot of it is just 'things happening' and no real direction. I love love love books and love reading but this wasn't as awesome as I thought. First book was better. I still recommend it for closure after the first book and she is a good writer... just didn't love the book.

This is exactly the line that a young Cyndy Etler straddled: trying to find connection while dealing with a stark need for self-protection. After surviving the travesty of the industrial teen recovery complex, Etler had to learn how to rejoin society -- and high school is already hard enough! Her story, shared here, is the story that every lonely, misfit kid could benefit from reading. When we can turn pain into art, we transmute that pain into a force for good. Etler is so skilled at this, it's almost surprising. Each teenager struggling to survive high school deserves this book. Of course, fans of Etler's first work, The Dead Inside, will deeply enjoy the redemption shared in her second memoir. And Etler's voice is as honest and refreshing as ever. Thank you, Cyndy Etler, for living and writing.

This book is just as good, if not better, than the author's first memoir, Dead Inside, which I highly recommend. This is the continuation of that first book, and continues the tales of her life. Both of these are true to life memoirs of the author's life, before and after being placed in a drug-treatment facility/program. This book more closely follows her life following her release from the program and her adjustment to "real life" after Straight. It's a grippingly honest and horrifyingly grabbing true story of how she survived her teen years, survived further abuse inside and out of her home, and made it through high school. God bless her soul... I'd have utterly died! This is a must-read. All kids and adults really should read this book, and families should read this together to truly understand what life can be like in the real world. This book can testify to what it CAN be Like!I was gifted this book and have voluntarily and happily reviewed it. Not sure why anyone put this book in the category of Romance Novels.The person Cyndy really falls in love with is herself.An absolutely horrid Recovery story that painfully depicts many of the sad realities of the Tough Love centers so popular in the 90s.I was honored to receive an advance read copy of this book.The mother who is so shocked when baby sister discloses abuse is an unfortunately well depicted idiot mom.After big sis having brief acting out, and running away from contact, the assault is unfortunately no surprise.No mention of official response besides mom being upset is also deplorably not that unusual. Especially in an suburban setting.Congrats to the author for sharing that survival is possible and resources available for victims of child and teenage sexual assault.Jeers to anyone who didn't take assault or abuse accusations seriously.Cheers to those who found ways to help the survivors, and to the survivors for taking the chance on making it another day.

This finishes my collection

While it is true that this is a better reference for Sabbat characters than Camarilla, this is not because of wanton sexuality or anything like that. It is a book about discovering yourself through all outlets: pain, thought, suffering, sexuality, sensuality, etc. This is more of a Sabbat outlook than a Camarilla one, so it is more appropriate for those characters.That set aside, it is not really all that helpful a resource. Some of the book was obviously researched, I can tell that from my own studies. However, much of it was merely Lilith bemoaning her fate. Dark Mother indeed. Where is this Mother's self-sufficiency, her self-confidence, her satisfaction at what she is done? Nowhere. It is a book about her whining and using her powers to seduce those she hates until she meets her love, Lucifer.While that is all very interesting, the art is neither detailed nor differentiated. The only really interesting pictures are toward the end, where Lilith is dressed in the outfits of Pharoh, and where she holds Lucifer's sword and prepares to slaughter her enemies. The text is not as poetic as you would be likely to think, if you had read The Book of Nod or The Erciyes Fragments, both of which are wonderful and highly recommended. If you have need of more of that, go ahead and pick this up. If you have players who are Lilins, go ahead and have them pick this up. If you are interested in vampire flavor, this is not really for you. It shuns vampires mainly, and it is not really useful for them.Harkius

I use this book, along with "The Book of Nod" and other WoD books to develop unique interpretations to the story we have just finished our fourth summer of playing. Told from the point of view of someone investigating the cults concerning Lilith, we get 3 "books" about the Dark Mother. These three agree on many points but it is the contradictions that I find most useful in the game. A creepy feeling surrounds the book and you may get chills just from reading it.

Most of the material in this book is already available free online - and the book should be advertised as so. Also, I've already found a few mistakes in the book, which were quite confusing to figure out since I was expecting zero errors in the Official GRE prep book from ETS. Slightly disappointing, but will continue to use until I've gone through all the problems in the book - but only because I feel like you can't get enough practice for these tests. Would recommend other books, such as Manhattan and Baron's.

I’m disappointed with this 2nd edition of the "Official GRE Quantitative Reasoning Practice Questions". I was hoping for a serious update with more and newer practice questions.However, this edition is essentially the same as the 1st edition. The only difference I’ve been able to find so far is reformatting and minor revisions to “Appendix A: GRE Math Review” on pages 139-228.All of the actual GRE practice questions appear to be identical. ETS certainly has more recent retired questions. Why not release them to help test-takers prepare?All that said, this book is one of very few resources that contain retired questions from the test maker and people studying the GRE should certainly use either it or the nearly identical first edition.

Don't bother with the digital Kindle version. A lot of the equations and diagrams to answer the questions are either missing or cut off. Tried running Kindle version of this book on multiple platforms (PC/mobile). Very sloppy and it's obvious the digital version was carelessly put together.

This is a great book. I haven't had time to work though much of it, sadly, but I have read the section introductions and worked on some problems. If I don't pass the GRE, I will be going back and really working through this book.Each section has a great introduction to each part of the test and the kinds of problems you will find in it. I like that it has tons of practice exercises, along with long explanations of the answers. The general math review in the last chapter is also super useful. I haven't had math in years.

I used this book to prepare the quantitative reasoning part of the GRE and after taking the test I can say that I totally recommend it. I was worried about the degree of complexity of the exercises and my ability to solve all of them in the 35 min allocated. The book contains exercises of a very good level, higher of what you will find in the first quantitative section (the second is chosen accordingly to your performance in the 1st part). I used other 2 books for the quantitative part (Barron's and one more) and the problems from this book had the highest level. I got the score I was pursuing. Obviously commitment and time is a must, the book has no magic tricks or recipes for fast succes.

It's very helpful to have practice material that accurately reflects what's on the GRE. I learned a lot from this book. However, I bought the kindle version and it was very frustrating to encounter many practice questions or answers with weird kindle formatting glitches, rendering them useless. I'd probably buy the print copy next time.

They say that the questions are real, but I had two books - total of 150+100 questions, and none of them was in the test. Very disappointing, to say the least. And there are mistakes in the book. I studied in different countries and got prestigious scholarships, but never saw a more ridiculous test. In every sense.

the questions are exactly the same as the old version. though I can't say I expect much more from ETS who have such a monopoly on test admissions, publishing this as a "new version" is a pretty low move

It gives breakdowns on preventive maintenance, torque specs, how-to, tools needed, etc. Very handy book for the DIY person.Contents include: tune-up and routine maintenance, overhaul procedures for the V6 and V8 engines, cooling, heating, and air conditioning systems, fuel and exhaust systems, engine electrical system, emissions and engine control systems, automatic/manual transmission and transfer case, clutch and driveline, brakes, suspension and steering systems, body, chassis electrical system, and wiring diagrams.

I like to do most repair and maintenance on my vehicles, being retired at age 50 because of a severe back injury isn't known for insuring a comfortable income, therefore you have to save money any way you can. I have always bought a Chilton book for every vehicle I have ever owned so when I picked up this F-150 from my nephew the first thing I did was order the Chilton.
