I was skeptical (another decluttering - organizing book? Like we don’t have enough already.) when beginning this short volume, but within minutes, was intrigued: in concise, precise language and with short, focused stories, Moore was hitting every nail on the head. This book helped me to feel like a winner. Like my feelings are valuable. Like I can finally have control! I did not feel like I was reading another book that just told me what to do like I was a robot or something. There are easy explanations of the science behind why and how to fix this issue of overwhelm in this book.The author takes an in-depth look at sorting/organizing. The author presents more than mere steps to follow, she provides tips/lessons learned about how to sort/organize best, while making this new learned lesson a definite part of your life, so you will never feel overwhelmed or disorganized again. The tips and ideas are fairly concrete and useful.I really liked the fact that she was not a crazy minimalist and focused a lot on keeping the home cozy and homely. Why would anyone want to live in a neat empty white space after all?
I liked the title and the promise in the advertising for this book, but was disappointed with the very general advice, more on the level of a quick women's magazine article than a published book.
Practical advice and suggestions, nice links to how to videos on You Tube.com , nice list of additional reading and resources at the end of the book, and includes bits from Swedish Death Cleaning books and Danish Hygge.
This book includes some very basic introductions to minimalism & hygge. There are some actionable points to take home. If you’re looking for motivation, this isn’t particularly the book, but if you’re looking for the how-to and why behind it, it’s worth reading and won’t take you long to read.
I found this book to hold a lot of truth about why a person starts holding onto objects which develop into clutter. Facts like ‘I may need that later on & if not me then someone else in the house may be able to use it.’ An important factor is being able to let go of something when not needed anymore.The discarding plan described in the book has worked very well for me, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is really busy but needs a good way to get organized. Many useful hints and tips.My favorite parts were the room-to-room organizing tips and the little nuggets she recommended to do each month to keep coziness in the atmosphere.
Simple practical uplifting and contains ideas that I had not thought of before.
