About the Author
Molly Hatch earned an MFA in ceramics at the University of Colorado in Boulder in 2008. Molly's career in ceramics has led to collaborations with institutions such as the High Museum in Atlanta, the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Clark Art Institute. Molly's illustrations and ceramic designs have led to the development of a lifestyle brand licensed by clients such as Anthropologie, Galison and Graphique de France. Her work has been featured in many publications - from the New York Times, Boston Globe to the London Sunday Times and magazines such as House Beautiful and Country Home Living. Her artwork is shown and sold internationally at museums and art fairs through gallery representation. Molly is currently a part-time faulty in the Ceramics Area at the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, RI. I can honestly say, this is easily one of my most favorite books on ceramics i've ever purchased. I'm a middle-aged artist that only just recently discovered ceramics, so I have a lot to learn, but few books set for beginnings really say what I'm looking for. This one does. Even the intro grabbed me! I thought I was alone in being perplexed in finishing my ceramics. Not so. GREAT BOOK!
I love this book and my students love it too! It very thoroughly explains different surface techniques. It not only explains the steps, but will also show you what materials you need to complete each, and examples of artists who really utilize each technique in their work. The photos are beautiful. It includes Molly Hatch's templates and various glaze/slip recipes. There is even a resource page which will point you in the direction of more information in the back of the book. SO GREAT! If you're contemplating buying it, I would definitely recommend it!
I bought this book to give me some new ideas for my ceramics students. Many of the techniques were familiar but I liked the explanations in this book. It doesn't feel intimidating and has a "you can do this" style. Beautiful images too!
Spiral bound spine. These guys get the whole picture. Very interesting and informative ceramic pottery. Bought as a gift. I was well received by a professional potter.
