I was a bit discouraged by some of the reviews before I bought the book. But I found it a great book for my purposes, which involved gaining a solid foundation about the immigration laws. I think I got that by reading the book. I learned that there are many twists and turns involved with the process. So, I recommend the book to those who want a basic understanding of the different types of visas, who qualifies for each, and the many pitfalls to avoid in the application process. True, there are copies of the various forms that were not of interest to me, as a lay person in the subject. But I have a friend who is an immigration counselor. I now have a much better understanding of what she can get into with clients, and their specific situations and requests/needs. If she knows her stuff, she can really be helpful to folks who do not understand their rights or the pittfalls they need to avoid. For example, in many cases of applications, folks getting married will bar them from immigration, while others in the family who remain unmarried will be fine. Also, coming to the U.S. as a visitor or a student, one must be sure to indicate that they are not coming with the purpose of finding a way to stay. That kind of stuff can really cause you problems later. But if one comes as a visitor or a student, then finds that they want to get married and/or take a job, there are ways to make this work, legally. Come in illegally, and that process is much more difficult. Also, the book, at times, makes very personal comments about how great many visa applicants feel when they finally get approval. For many, it can take 10 or more years.As I have said several times, I recommend this book for its purpose of providing a basic understanding of the different types of visas, how they can be obtained, and the pitfalls to avoid in pursuing them.

I bought and read this book in 2012. I even used it in my own book, Through the Lens of the Transatlantic Slave Trade. However, it is still an important book for all to read. What struck me then and now are all the ways the medical establishment has undermined and denigrated the African body. When I encourage people to read the book, I tell them that the Tuskegee experiment is only one chapter in a book with 15 chapters. There has been so much under-the-radar activity that continues to encourage people to think less of the African Diaspora citizens who live with us. Our current Zika virus conversation is another twist for the books, which is probably an extension of the AIDS virus. Harriet Washington also takes us into a activities and conversation about Eugenics, which established stereotypes about African bodies more toxic and more menacing than biologically possible. This past week I was in a conversation about a Black woman who need a bone marrow donors. Her probably best match will be another black person, we're told. The protocols were established on Black patients in Ivy League hospitals for White patients, who use it much more often than Black patients. Thank you for opening my eyes about the insidiousness background from the medical/biological field. I look forward to your next work, hint, hint!

GREAT READ. EVERY DESCENDENT OF SLAVES SHOULD READ AND TEACH OUR CHILDREN THE HORRIBLE TREATMENT OF OUR ANCESTORS BY THE HANDS OF THESE EVIL DOCTORS AND NEVER LET OUR FORMER SLAVE MASTERS CHILDREN FORGET,,WE OWE IT TO OUR BEAUTIFUL STRONG ANCESTORS.

As a Black female and a medical professional, I find this book to be an "eye opener"! I work for a world class institution and have found that medical exploitation of minorities in general and poor blacks specifically, is on going. Income level play a major role in the disparities, regardless of what you hear, that "all of our patients are treated equally, regardless of income." Blacks must learn to speak up, question what it is you don't understand and not be afraid to ask for second opinions. You have a Patient Bill of Rights that should be posted in every medical facility. READ IT ! You have a right to ask that a doctor, nurse, aid personnel, data collector etc. speak in a language that YOU understand.Don't sign anything that you don't understand ! If you are having any type of invasive procedure, be sure that it is a Board Certified Specialist in that area of expertise performing it. Not a Resident Surgeon, unless the "expert surgeon" is present and observing and/or assisting. Get a POAHC and make sure it is someone who is vocal and assertive on YOUR behalf, when you are unable to speak for yourself. Having a degree is not a prerequisite for the latter.

This is such an important read for anyone interested in the history of black folks in the US and how the white population has continually oppressed the black population in cruel and gruesome ways. Washington is an amazing writer - even though she is writing about history (which can sometimes be a bit of a bore to read), she writes in a way that makes the text easy to read and understand, and make you want to keep reading. I also really liked how she focused on the prison system as a tool of medical oppression of the black community, because this point is often overlooked by a lot of scholars who decidedly chose not to pay attention to the prison population. Good book, great information!

This is just another reason why African-Americans deserve and should be demanding reparations! The US and possibly the world medical industry/profession owe a great debt to all the African-American families whose lives were destroyed, maimed or harmed by these experiments not to mention the racist stereotypes that were attached to us for the sake of "progress" Black people suffered treatment that wouldn't be applied to animals and I am sure this book is only scratching the surface of the atrocities committed.

I think this book is extremely important and informative, but I am disappointed by the poor copy editing. I am halfway through so far, and have found numerous issues with spelling, capitalization, and omitted letters, not to mention several ambiguous or redundant sentences. Yes, it's an emotionally difficult read, but someone at Random House should have taken the time to parse it more carefully!

I think of Martha Stewart as the modern day, Julia Child. What would cooking and entertaining be without Martha Stewart. This book is beautiful. The photography is absolutely breathtaking. It is a wonderful guide for anybody who wishes to produce the perfect wedding. What would you expect from Miss Perfect herself. Like Martha Stewart, everybody should strive for perfection. If you do not achieve it, at least you can say you tried. This book also makes a fantastic, coffee table book.

I enjoyed reading this book once, but it’s not something I would regard as a helpful resource of ideas. I’m glad I didn’t pay any more than what I paid for it.

While the featured weddings occurred years ago, Martha Stewart's classic sense of style and execution is evident.

I got this book when I was planning my wedding and it provided a lot of ideas for me to glean from for my own wedding.

Over 25 years old and still the a book I like to give to brides-to-be. I still use some of the recipes.

I love Martha Stewart and any book that she writes but this particular book will help me to make my wedding s grand one!

Still good but a little out of date.

But good ideas and recipes nontheless. the info on wedding cake recipes, decorating and assembly at the end are worth the cost of the book!

This book has a double set of images. Printed on black backed paper which does help prevent bleed through when using alcohol Markers, though I would still recommend putting a blotter between the sheets just to be sure. It also includes a PFD so you can print the images and color them again. These features alone make this a great book for beginners so you can practice and learn when starting out or share these with others. This particularly book has many pretty angels with lots of patterns in the background, however a few make it to the clothing of the angels as well. Fine-liners, gel pens or sharp pointed pencils would work best for these areas. Overall it's a nice book especially if you like many small patterns (stars, dots, lines etc.) This book is also a good way to practice skin and hair.

This is a lovely book of female Angel designs. There are 25 different designs but you are given 2 copies of each to total 50 coloring pages. The angels are posed against backgrounds rather than a simple figure. Some are full face and others are in profile. The dress is quite different with some in traditional long gowns and others in slightly more revealing two piece dresses or sleeveless gowns.The designs are quite detailed and will take hours to finish. They are not what I consider intricate as the elements to color do not require special small nib pens/markers. I am able to use a wide variety of coloring medium on these designs.While you can have access to .PDFs when you purchase this book, my review is based on the book as it is received from Amazon. That way you will know what the pages look like and how they accept color. I like that the publisher provides the digital version as well so you can choose the paper you wish to use and/or to color the pictures as many times as you choose.This is what I found while coloring in this book and testing the paper with my coloring medium:25 x 2 each – Angel DesignsPaper is typical of CreateSpace: white, thin, slightly rough and non-perforated. The back of the page is printed black.The designs do not merge into the binding. There is a heavy framing line at the outer edges of the design to give the project a more finished look, especially for framing. There is a slight shadowing effect to the framing line which gives the image an almost 3D effect.Glue Binding (there is room to cut the pages out if you choose to do so.)Though you cannot see the bleed-through easily due to the back of the page being printed in black, I recommend the use of a blotter page when working in this book. I use a page of card stock or several sheets of heavyweight paper under my working page. It keeps seeping ink and marring dents from ruining the pages below.Alcohol-based markers bleed through the page quickly.Water-based markers bleed through in spots.Gel pens and India ink pens leave shadows on back of the page. India ink can bleed through if you apply heavily or multiple coats.Coloring Pencils work well with this paper. I found that I could layers the same color for deeper pigment or multiple colors and I could blend easily using a blending stick. I tested both oil and wax based pencils. I also found that hard lead pencils leave dents through the paper.

WISH I COULD GIVE THIS BOOK MANY MANY MORE STARS. IT HAS GORGEOUS PICTURES TO COLOR AND THEY ARE VERY DETAILED. YOU WILL BE VERY HAPPY WITH THE PICTURES AND DETAILS IN THIS BOOK FOLKS.

This is my second Jade Summer coloring book. Received the first one as a gift and fell in love!

It was not what I expected. Most of the pictures of female angels are scantily clad.

The angels in this book are so beautiful. I think you will enjoy bringing radiant colors to them. I recommend.

I wasn't impressed. Not much pages to do. I did the wholr book in 1 day.

Pictures are gorgeous and they give you a free digital edition! Great my grand daughters love it!

I haven't colored this one yet, I love the book.
